Casting Process at Roll Bite in Strip Cast Using Vertical-Type High-Speed Twin-Roll Caster

The solidification process in strip casting using a vertical-type high-speed twin-roll caster was clarified by inserting 0.1 mm diameter K-type thermocouple into during casting. roll speeds of the copper rolls were 10 m/min and 30 m/min, loads 5 kN 20 kN. Al-Si alloys with Si content 2%, 6%, 12% used to investigate influence latent heat viscosity semisolid state. temperature increased after exiting rolls. This indicated that inside had not completely solidified at bite, secondary cooling necessary rapidly solidify strip. distance from bite starting position ranged 63 mm. rate degree supercooling as decreased. 400 °C/s 4000 °C/s. decreased increased.
